Common Questions

HOW IT WORKS

What’s the first step to working with you?

If what I offer sounds like it might be right for you, please contact me at lou@flamingosteps.co.uk.  I will contact you to arrange a free initial call or visit so you can find out more.

How long would the initial meeting be?

Typically I allow for around one hour for initial meetings, but am happy to work to your schedule and we can discuss this when you contact me.

What would be discussed at an initial meeting?

Our initial meeting is a chance for me to meet you and find out more about your own family and situation.  We will discuss your needs and what support you are seeking, and I will tell you more about my approach and how I work with your child and your family.

What does the service you offer look like in practice?

My approach is bespoke, and as such what it would very much depend on your needs.  I offer behavioural support to children, but also work with families (parents/carers and siblings) and can also offer advice and support to parents/carers.  Feel free to ask me any questions about what this might be for you.

What sort of advice can you offer parents/carers?

I would offer behavioural support mainly. I totally appreciate how difficult and busy family life can be so it’s better to work with small manageable steps.

What do you mean by Behavioural Support?

If your child is finding it difficult to sit at the dinner table, I would begin by setting a small, realistic target that feels manageable for you to implement. If this is successful, we can build on that progress by introducing the next step gradually. If it's not successful, I would adapt the approach to better suit your child's needs. My ethos is centred on creating positive, achievable experiences, with every strategy carefully tailored to support lasting success.

WHO WE SUPPORT

What age of children do you work with?

Flamingo Steps was set up to work with children aged under seven, reflecting my past experience and approach. If you’re not sure if your child is the right age – please just contact me at 07533841391 to ask a question.

Is there a good age to start working with children with Autism?

It’s never too early!  My approach is aimed at all children below the age of seven and early interventions can be highly effective for both children and families.

Does my child have to be already diagnosed with Autism?

Absolutely not. If you feel that your child has Autism or is just struggling in anyway then I still would love to help. I’m very aware as to how long waiting lists for formal diagnosis are. I could still be making a difference whilst you were waiting for this to take place, ensuring you’re not wasting any time.
